Review // Squid Ink Sushi

Last night we went to Squid Ink Sushi. We’re familiar with Squid Ink – to say the least. A few years ago this, was one of the original dates spots my now-husband took me to, and asked me to be his girlfriend! So, admittedly, we have a soft spot for Downtown Phoenix and sushi combined, and this is one of our regular go-to spots. Last night did not disappoint.

When we walked in last night we were greeted by the bartender, Tyler. Tyler educated us on the variety of sakes that Squid Ink carries, and we decided to go for Sayuri, meaning “little lily” in Japanese, a fruity mixture with a cream-like texture that came in a pink bottle. It went down so smooth! Chased with Sapporo, it was a refreshing start to the evening.

For an appetizer, we ordered the Japanese Chicken. I’ve had this style of chicken at boba places, and in Japanese this is called Karaage. Our chicken was tender, and not too spicy, and I ate every last morsel of it.

The stars of the show were of course, the sashimi and the sushi! We ordered Lobster Sashimi that tasted as if it came fresh from the ocean, and the sushi rolls shined in their own way. My favorite was the Ultimate Philly Roll which had spicy crab, shrimp tempura, smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, eel sauce, and spicy aioli. Think of a Philly Roll on steroids, and you will get the Ultimate Philly Roll which delivers in flavor and taste. The Seafood Dynamite also captured my heart, as there was every piece of seafood you’d want in a sushi roll there: spicy crab, octopus, scallops, salmon, yellowtail, tuna, and eel sauce. I recommend it for every seafood lover out there! Overall, it was a delightful experience, and I can’t wait to go back.
