Rise Uptown marries mid-century touches with modern-day amenities for an ultimate mix of vintage charm transported in the present. “Rise Uptown” is a fitting name for this mid-century modern boutique that flourished in the midst of last year’s pandemic, and I had the pleasure of doing a staycation-flexcation, where I worked and played during my stay.
Our arrival was greeted with a cool surprise. At check-in at The Pop Stand, they give you complimentary paletas-style popsicles! They have different categories to choose from: boozy, dairy, fruit, and I chose the rainbow one because I couldn’t decide which flavor! I had a chance to try a few of them, and they all tasted delicious.
I checked into my room, and immediately fell in love with the décor. There’s cacti wallpaper, an old-school record player, a mid-century modern desk, and a balcony with views of Uptown Phoenix. If there’s anything I needed, instead of using a phone to call the front desk, I just texted them instead!
While I had to work during my staycation, I took advantage of Cartel Uptown. They serve delicious coffee drinks and pastries. I had a Match Blueberry Poptart with homemade blueberry jam and match tea glaze. I tried the CCL, which had Nami vegan caramel, coconut almond cream and cold brew mixed together. I spent every morning starting my day right with Cartel.
When I had off-time, I went over to Lylo Swim Club. Pronounced “lie-low”, a UK term for pool float, the poolside bar had tons of cocktails to choose from, and is led by the creator behind Bitter & Twisted, Ross Simon. I ordered the Coupette Colada as well as the Dole Whipped, both fantastic rum cocktails. I also ate off their Asian-inspired menu, and had Spam! Musubi. It definitely hit the spot on the hot days.
